The Bobcat and Lynx are two of North America’s small wild cats and are adaptable predators that inhabit wooded areas, forest edges and mountainous, rocky terrain. Bobcats have a gray to brown coat, whiskered face, and black-tufted ears. They are slightly smaller, on average, than the Canadian Lynx, with which it shares parts of its range. Bobcats are about twice as large as a domestic cat and have distinctive black bars on its forelegs and a black-tipped, stubby tail from which it derives its name.  The Lynx has very similar markings, although its spots are not as distinct, their ear tufts are larger, and coats are much thicker as they live in higher elevations and colder climates. Lynx have very large feet which enables them to live in areas with deep snow. Both of these wild cats prefers to prey on rabbits and hares, but will hunt anything from insects, to birds, to small rodents and even deer. Prey selection depends on location and habitat, season, and abundance. Like most cats, the Bobcat and Lynx are territorial and largely solitary, although with some overlap in home ranges. Their breeding season is from winter into spring and has a gestation period of about two months.

Gillnockies Guiding & Outfitting territory is well known for its abundance of both Bobcats and Lynx and is proud to offer very high success rates for hunts for both of these wild cats. Although most of our clients come for our top notch Mountain Lion hunting, this hunt is just as exciting. These cats are quite crafty, making it a more difficult chase for hounds as the cats will run in circles and jump from tree to tree to elude their pursuers. This is a great combination hunt for clients while hunting Mountain Lions . It is not uncommon to cut several different sets of tracks for both of these cats while out searching for Mountain Lion tracks, and quite often our hunters will harvest a trophy lion early in the hunt. We will then focus on hunting for a trophy Bobcat and/or Lynx. If you are only interested in taking a Bobcat and/or Lynx, we offer a small cat hunt package also.  These trips are conducted the same way as our Mountain Lion hunt and is recommended that hunters carry Wolf tags on any hunt in this territory.
